I offer more than 35 years of experience in development communications, operations management, and frontline fundraising.

Who I Am

Stephen Elwell  (elwell@endstartconsulting.com) I have led development communications and stewardship programs in academic institutions for more than 35 years. I bring to EndStart extensive experience translating strategic visions and missions into comprehensive communications for donors and alumni. As Director of Development and Alumni Relations Communications at the University of Pennsylvania, I played an instrumental role in building and implementing a robust stewardship and donor relations program following the University‚Äôs record-breaking billion-dollar comprehensive Campaign for Penn

Among my successes at Penn were stewardship initiatives ranging from launching Penn's first university-wide reporting system for endowed scholarships to creating Penn's first access guide for alumni. My work has been recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education many times.

Before coming to Penn, I directed Development Communications at the University of Southern California. I am a graduate of Kalamazoo College and the University of Chicago, and I earned a Ph.D. in English Literature at Indiana University-Bloomington. I have been an active volunteer my entire adult life. I am currently a docent, leading tours at National Portrait Gallery, and my most recent board service was with MedEvac Foundation International, based in Washington, DC.

EndStart was founded to help organizations and institutions build strong and lasting relationships with donors that generate increased short and long-term revenue.
